OVEC Members Win Awards
Thirteen-year-old Chrystal Gunnoe became the youngest
ever recipient of an award from the West Virginia Environmental Council.
Chrystal won the 2008 Linda Schnautz Courage Award. She has shown
remarkable courage, initiative and persistence in the face of many
challenges living below a large valley fill.
OVEC board member Chuck Nelson received the
E-Council’s 2008 Laura Forman Grassroots Activist Award.
Chuck plays a lead role in organizing people whose
drinking water has apparently been contaminated with coal sludge. In
March Chuck will travel to Cape Cod to testify at a public hearing in
favor of the largest renewable energy project in the United States, the
Cape Wind Project, seven miles offshore. This project has the support of
the majority of people in Massachusetts.
