Good Riddance to Bad Rubbish
J. Steven Griles, the "former" oil, gas and coal lobbyist who Bush appointed as the Interior Department's No. 2 official, resigned in December.
Griles was the one who ignored the science in the draft environmental impact statement on mountaintop removal and instead pushed to speed up the permitting process. Griles was investigated by the department's inspector general because he continued to receive $284,000 a year, in addition to his government salary, as part of a four-year severance package from his former lobbying and consulting firm.
"Under the president's watch, our air is cleaner, our water is purer, our parks are better managed, our wilderness is protected and we're adding wetlands once again for our wildlife," Griles told the Associated Press. If you believe that, you definitely haven't been paying attention!
