When:        12:15 p.m.  April 1, 2008 – April Fools Day

What:         Fossil Fools Day Street Theatre

King Coal attempts to present the WV Fossil Foolie Award. Nominees for the award bicker over who has been the most fossil foolish, but green energy workers arrive to take over our energy future.

Who:          OVEC, Coal River Mountain Watch, Charleston Area Youth Environmental Network, Student Environmental Action Coalition, Sierra Club

Where:       Lower Rotunda, WV State Capitol

Visuals:      Props created by Charleston Area Youth Environmental Network and others.

Why:           Leading climate scientists such as NASA’s James Hansen believe that dramatic reductions in greenhouse gas emissions must begin immediately to avoid catastrophic climatic shifts, yet West Virginia’s political leaders and the coal industry refuse to acknowledge the urgent need for our state to transition to a renewable energy future.  Truly cleaner energy jobs are coming to more progressive states. We want West Virginia to join the green energy revolution!
