Coalfield Residents Seek Funding
STAFF
Logan
A group of Southern Coalfield residents say after the latest bout
of flooding--enough is enough.
Several southern West Virginia citizens have formed a group called
"Coal Field Flood Prevention." Their goal: to get
officials to dredge the creeks, get proper drainage put in, and
develop a flood signal system to warn residents of imminent
flooding.
The group held its first meeting Tuesday evening. Rebecca
Adams-Hunt, a Logan resident and a member of the group, says they
hope to work with all interested parties in the effort to diminish
the chances of severe flooding in the region.
"We want everyone to sit down peaceably and work on this issue
and do what needs to be done," she says.
Hunt says they are currently circulating a petition in the area,
which will be sent to several congressional representatives, asking
for funding for their flood prevention efforts.
Getting funding is the group's number one priority. With no money,
Hunt says, the situation won't improve. And that is unacceptable.
