10/20/2002Logan Coal Rally Focuses on Politics Staff Friends of the coal industry rally in Logan Sunday. People from all aspects of the coal industry brave the rainy weather to mingle with friend and to talk with political candidates about their stance on coal. The rally was like a family gathering for many of the people there. Music blared from a giant stereo, the smell of hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill permeated the air and people of all ages caught up on old times. Political candidates were also at the rally mingling through the crowd. Many wore "I love coal" stickers on their shirts. The candidates talked to people from the coal industry about their stance on coal. Corky DeMarco with the West Virginia Natural Resources Transporters Association says everyone was invited to the rally but the people who came were coal supporters. DeMarco says the timing of the rally has nothing to do with the fact that the election is coming up in a few weeks. However others at the rally say the timing of the rally works out great for being able to discuss issues with candidates before going to the polls November 5th. . |
