The Roane/Calhoun Peace Coalition held a peaceful protest
against war on Iraq in front of the Roane County Courthouse on Main Street
in Spencer, WV.
Many people in the county, across the state and nation, and worldwide do not believe the Bush administration has proven that Iraq represents a clear and imminent threat to the well being of the United States. The Roane/Calhoun Peace Coalition believes that the United States must not attack Iraq, nor abandon its long-standing policy against a first strike. We do not see how unleashing our military might on Iraq will make our nation safer from terrorist attack. Indeed, we believe an unjustified attack will increase worldwide animosity towards the United States of America. We believe the Bush administration has not been forthcoming with the real reasons it wishes to attack Iraq.
Beginning at 11 a.m. in front of the Roane County Courthouse in downtown Spencer, people
gathered to voice their opposition to the projected attack on Iraq. The event to lasted
about an hour. Despite snow, and predications of a major snowstorm
heading our way, about 100 people showed up for the peace gathering.
