The Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition (OVEC) is a diverse, grassroots organization dedicated to improving and protecting the environment through organizing and leadership development. We also educate citizens about the threats to our region though extensive media work. Our fi ght for environmental justice is part of the universal struggle to overcome all forms of oppression. We operate on the principal that social change can happen when ordinary citizens feel personally powerful and see themselves as agents of change. OVEC's greatest strength continues to be a demonstrated ability to get hundreds of volunteers involved. OVEC builds coalitions that work together help shift the balance of power toward the public interest. Our major program focuses on the extreme social and environmental injustices caused by mountaintop removal mining and coal sludge impoundments.
