 Sludge Safety Project Update
Thursday the Senate passed Senate Concurrent Resolution 15, which mandates that the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) perform studies to determine exactly what is in coal slurry, whether it is getting into people’s well water when it is injected underground and what effects the slurry is having on human health.

The House passed a similar resolution two weeks ago. Now the House must pass the Senate version of the bill before the legislative session ends at midnight Saturday (March 10).

Tell Your Senators Coal-to-Liquid is Nuts
Well, maybe they ought not hear it such plain language, but please do call your Senators to let them know voting for coal-to-liquid is voting for more global warming gases and more mountaintop removal mining, so they should not support this Nazi tecnology, ever.

Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) has filed a liquid coal amendment that he may offer today to the bill to implement the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission.

Inhofe's amendment includes hundreds of millions of dollars in subsidies to launch a new liquid coal industry that would convert coal into transportation fuel. Converting coal into a liquid fuel coal produces double the carbon dioxide emissions of conventional gasoline.

Please call your Senators today to tell them to vote down Inhofe's amendment. Also, please ask them to oppose all proposals to use our tax dollars to subsidize liquid coal.

Contact your Senators via the Congressional Switchboard at 202-224-3121. Or click here to find numbers directly to their offices.
