Volunteers
Needed: WV Public Broadcasting Will Mention Our Groups on Air
Volunteers needed Tuesday June 7 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at
600 Capitol St., Charleston. OVEC is calling for three of
our members from the Charleston area to join the West Virginia
Chapter of the Sierra Club during a WV Public Broadcasting
fundraising telethon. OVEC and Sierra Club will be recognized on the
air during breaks while the telethon airs the documentary "Alone in
the Wilderness." Please either respond to this e-mail or call the
OVEC office at 304-522-0246 if you want to volunteer. We'll provide
the first three people to volunteer with an OVEC T-shirt to wear
during the broadcast (and to keep, of course).

| Like all of us,
this critter needs clean water to survive. The red-spotted newt
(eft stage) doesn't like mountaintop removal / valley fill coal
mining at all, and hopes you will take action on its behalf (not to
anthropomorphize its amphibian brain.) Photo by V.S. 05-30-05 |

Two Most
Excellent Op-Eds
Speaking of what you can do to help end mountaintop removal,
letters to the editors and
op-eds are great ways to inform people and sway public opinion.
Check out two excellent op-eds in today's Charleston Gazette, one
from Julian Martin--There
is no such thing as clean coal, and one from Bryan McNeil--Coal
companies trample on public, private property. You can find
contact information for just about any news media outlet in the
United States by clicking
