Kill Drill

Please join Marshall Action for Peaceful Solutions and OVEC as we cosponsor a slideshow on the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and its preservation. Come out on Monday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. to the Don Morris Room, Student Center, Marshall University, Huntington. See www.alaskawild.org/ and also see The State of the Environment to learn more, but most importantly, come out and see this presentation!

We Need You in Charleston Feb. 10

We need you at an event in Charleston, W.V. at 1:15 p.m. on Thursday Feb. 10. Why?  Where?  Ah, yes, you might want to know that, but we have to keep it quiet for now.  Respond to this e-mail if you want more details. If you work in Charleston, please consider taking your lunch from 1-2 so you can join us. Hmm, this is all so mysterious, it's obviously going to be good!

Calling Writer- and Reader-Volunteers

No matter where you live, you want to do something to help out with everyone's Stop Mountaintop Removal work.  After all, that's why you are this list (or you are a coal industry spy and you think you are clever because you are on our open list). You can, of course, write letters to the editors of papers near and far. Click here and here for the whys and hows of getting in your own letters. (The last link includes the text of several already published letters.)

Also, please remember OVEC when you are reading newspapers. If you see a story that mentions our work, or is relevant to our work, please clip it and send it along to us at:

    OVEC
    PO Box 6753
    Huntington, WV 25773-6753

We likely have the newsclips from the Huntington and Charleston newspapers, but we often don't have them from Beckley, Logan, Williamson, Morgantown, Chicago, Boston, London, England, etc. if you do clip articles for us, it's best to include the whole page (pages) so that we have the newspaper masthead, the date and the entire story.

February Newsletter Online

If you are a dues-paying member of OVEC, you soon will be receiving a print copy of the OVEC Winds of Change newsletter in the mail, probably within two weeks. Even those of you who haven't paid membership fees in a while will still likely get the newsletter in the mail soon (hint). (If you think you have somehow fallen off our mailing list, e-mail us your mailing address.) You can read our newsletter online by clicking here. Be sure to check out the Web Extras, available only online.

Clean Elections Equal More Citizen Protections

As we report in the February Winds of Change newsletter, our chances for real election reform never have been better! The regular legislative session begins Feb. 9.  With the WV Citizen Action Group and WV Environmental Council, OVEC will keep you up-to-date on the Clean Elections bill as it progresses throughout the session.  In the meantime, please contact members of Select Committee F and ask them to support Clean Elections and the 527 legislation they have been studying during interims.  Thanks! E-mail vivian@ohvec.org for the contact information for members of Select Committee F.
