More Info on E-Day! Correction Re: Previous Jack Spadaro Update A Plea to Help Coalwood COME TO E-DAY! TUESDAY--VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Please join us in Charleston on Tuesday, Feb. 17 for WV Environmental Council's 15th annual E-Day! Many groups, including OVEC and the Clean Elections Coalition, will have tables at the State Capitol. We need volunteers to help us set up, watch the tables and tear down. Reply to this e-mail or give us a call at 304-522-0246 if you would like to help. E-Council lobbyists note that if you want to visit your legislators on E-Day! to talk about issues of concern to you, you really ought to set up an appointment in advance. That's far more effective than simply hoping to catch them in their offices. To find the contact information for your legislators, go to OVEC's home page, scroll down the page. In the left column, below the flower picture, you'll find a place where you can type in your zip code, and, presto, there's you legislators' contact info. You even get a swell picture of them. The full awards ceremony will be part of the E-Day! evening reception and benefit at Perfater Law Office, 1311 Virginia St. East. Come see Coal River Mountain Watch's firebrand Patty Sebok get the Linda Schnautz Environmental Courage award! (We mentioned some of the other awardees earlier.if you forgot who they are, come see for yourself.) Click here for the full E-Day! schedule. CORRECTION RE: PREVIOUS JACK SPADARO UPDATE My bad, sorry. In the last OVEC Action Alert! I wrote about a lawsuit Jack Spadaro had filed. The thing is, no actual lawsuit has been filed yet. Due to Jack's whistleblower status, attorney Jason Huber is fighting Jack's threatened termination through the Merit System Protection Board and the Office of Special Council. If you haven't yet written a letter to Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao asking her to Bring Back Jack, then on E-Day! stop by the tables and fill out a letter to send in, right there. If you can't make it to E-Day, but would like a read a sample letter addressed to Chao, reply to this e-mail with "Chao letter" in the subject line. This Sunday, Feb. 15, National Public Radio's "Living on Earth" will again air an update on whistleblower Jack Spadaro and the Mine Safety and Health Administration. In West Virginia, "Living on Earth" airs at 7 p.m. Sundays. Once the week's show is posted to the Internet, you can listen online at: http://www.loe.org/ A BETTER STANDARD FOR COALWOOD The folks at A Better Standard are asking you to write some letters about the flooding situation in Coalwood, WV. "The flooding situation in Coalwood has reached grave proportions. With the weather the way its been recently, the ground is incredibly saturated and to make matters worse, the mountain behind the houses in the middle of town has started 'leaking' water." Apparently a coal company used to pump sludge into this mountain. If you would like to read about the situation in Coalwood and learn more about what you can do to help, contact vivian@ohvec.org with "Coalwood" in the subject line.
