PLEASE Call Today About The Energy Bill Support The E-Council Lobby Team STOP THE CORRUPT ENERGY BILL--CALL TODAY! If you haven't called yet, please call NOW. We are hearing that there are ALMOST enough Senators lined up to filibuster the exceedingly awful Energy Bill, HR 6. Senators who are not yet committed to filibuster this bill include Senators Rockefeller and Byrd. Please, please call them today. The bill is a big ole hog slop of tax giveaways-about $50 Billion--for fossil fuel and nuclear polluters. This 1000-page monstrosity would shield MTBE (a gasoline additive that threatens human health by polluting groundwater) producers from product liability lawsuits. That means you and I, the taxpayers, would be left with the estimated $29 billion tab for cleaning up already contaminated water. This bill would also weaken important clean air protections and exempt drilling activities related to coalbed methane from requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act. Please call-it really only takes a few minutes- Senator Robert C. Byrd Washington, DC: 202-224-3954 Local Phone: 304-342-5855 Senator John Rockefeller Washington, DC: 202-224-6472 Local Phone: 304-347-5372 Make sure the staffers know you're a constituent, and then urge your Senators to: "Please FILIBUSTER to stop the energy bill." Senator Byrd has already spoken out strongly against this bill, so please thank him. Doris "Granny D" Haddock is registering voters in North Carolina this week. This weekend, she'll join some members of OVEC and Marshall Action for Peaceful Solutions and few thousand other folks this weekend at the School of the Americas protest in Georgia (see www.soaw.org). After a Thanksgiving week break, she'll spend another week in North Carolina before heading to Florida. Her mission is voter registration of working women. If you have friends in NC, please contact us and we'll put them in touch with Granny D. She's looking to take over an interesting, wild even, job from a woman long enough (an hour or two) so that woman can register to vote. Granny is up to quite a bit more, so reply to this e-mail if you want to learn more, or to help Granny D get in touch with your North Carolina friends.
