Easy Web Action for Clean Elections REMINDER--LEASE COME OUT TONIGHT! We need you! Yup, we need a big turnout TONIGHT (Oct. 28) at the University of Charleston. West Virginia Highland Conservancy's Cindy Rank will speak the truth to Massey Energy's CEO Don Blankenship. OVEC, Coal River Mountain Watch, Citizens Coal Council and the West Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club plan to gather at 5:30 p.m. outside the University of Charleston's Geary Student Union (2300 MacCorkle Ave. SE) to educate people about mountaintop removal and Massey Energy's terrible environmental and labor record. Please join us to hand out literature and hold placards. If you have a Stop Mountaintop Removal T-shirt, please wear that. The event itself starts at 6:30, in the ballroom on the third floor of the student union. Please attend a People's Election Reform Coalition /WV (a joint project of OVEC and Citizen Action Group) press conference. Very special guest Granny D will help us release our 2002 PERC/WV report on money in West Virginia politics. Join us Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in the Governor's Press Conference Room (located in the Secretary of State's office in the State Capitol building). Remember, Granny D walked across the country in support of campaign finance reform. She took a special shine to OVEC members and has continued to speak out about mountaintop removal. We are honored that she is again visiting West Virginia. Please come and show your support for the Reform That Makes All Other Reforms Possible! Check out Granny D's WV schedule at www.grannyd.com. EASY WEB ACTION FOR CLEAN ELECTIONS The West Virginia Clean Elections Act would go a long way toward getting special interests' influence out of state politics. Support the WV Clean Elections act by voting in today's on-line poll in the Parkersburg News at www.newsandsentinel.com/. www.sundaygazettemail.com/section/News/Other+News/200310114 Come One, Come All! Join the Enviro-Eco-Entourage and Chorus for Everyone's Favorite Green Planet. Morgantown, Friday, October 31 --Yes, Halloween! --at 6:30 p.m.- During the WVU Homecoming Parade, the Friends of Blackwater Canyon, with the Massive Mother Earth Planet Float/Puppet, will parade down High Street. This Earth Planet Float/Puppet, which originally appeared in the 1990 Earth Day Parade in Morgantown, has been completely reengineered, repainted, and spruced up. It is a 16-foot tall circular globe/face with embracing arms that spread from one side of the street to the other and wave and gesture; also wild oceans and curvaceous continents; and curious eyes that open and shut. Wow! Human-powered, of course! (ten strong college students have already signed up!) And within Mother Earth's green embracing arms is a sacred space of freedom and peace where the eco-entourage and chorus will march and sing - in affirmation of the Earth, the outdoors, the Blackwater Canyon - and all that good green stuff. We'll wave pennants and banners, and we'll sing some old favorite idealistic songs (see below). Staging area is North High Street (downtown Morgantown). Look for the puppet. Please be there between 5:00 - 5:15 PM to line up-that's the way they want it done-then we wait. Everyone welcome in the eco-entourage and chorus. Bring families, children, babies, wheelchairs, doggies and turtles on leashes, balloons, flags, banners, foliage. Morgantown is a parade-happy town, so expect to be appreciated! No idea of what happens if it rains hard. Dress: Ideas: ** Eco-costumes and props ** like outdoor recreation clothes, life jackets, backpacks, paddles, helmets, ride mountain bikes, carry skis; ** ANY creative gear or costume of your own liking.** We have some silly hats, or just your ** regular clothes are FINE ** The Earth has room for lots of diversity in attire. Music: Along with singing, our eco-entourage and chorus will include a "just folks" marching band, so please bring any sort of musical instrument you are willing to play along with - kazoos and drums, guitars, fifes, horns, chimes - whatever. Rehearsal at 5:30 PM at the parade formation site. Two songs we will play and sing are "This Land is Your Land" and "When the Saints Go Marching In," both in the key of C. Also "Down To The River To Pray," from the "O Brother" movie. We have lyric sheets. There will be a one-hour pre-parade "core band" - rehearsal - all welcome - on the weekend before the parade, at Mike Furbee's in Morgantown on Saturday Oct. 25, 9:30 am, 1 Bryson Street, next to Wiles Hill School (296-6460). More Info, ideas and suggestions: Judy Schoyer Rodd, Friends of Blackwater Canyon, 501 Elizabeth Street, Charleston WV 25311 -- 1-877-WVA-LAND -- info@saveblackwater.org. If you are definitely planning to come, feel free to e-mail or call and let us know. But no need to make a reservation - just show up!!
