OVEC Action Alert - August 14, 2003

MTR Comment Period Extended!

Remember to Check Our Events Calendar

COMMENT PERIOD ON MTR EXTENDED

We've just gotten word from EPA that the comment period on the draft Environmental Impact Statement on mountaintop removal/ valley fill coal mining has been extended 130 days, from August 29 to January 6, 2004. This extension will be officially recorded in the Federal Register on August 22.

Now, you really have time to read through the 5,000 page document, which you can find here. Several groups will continue working together to bring you information that will help you build your own comment letter.

The EPA will also accept comments via e-mail at mountaintop.r3@epa.gov.

EVENTS CALENDAR

Just a reminder that you can keep up to date on events and deadlines of interest to OVEC members (we hope!) by checking OVEC's event calaendar.  We'll soon be posting notes about the Appalachian South Folklife Center's Mountain Music Festival on Aug. 22 and 23 and Coalwood's Sky Festival on Oct. 4. We also keep you up-to-date with news on our homepage and alternate news page.
