Please Come to Thursday’s MTR Plaque Meeting
MTR PLAQUE MEETING AND STATUE DEDICATION
At 10a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, the Capitol Building Commission, at our request, will hold a meeting to discuss the mountaintop removal plaque that is on the base of the statue that was supposed to honor miners. Instead of honoring miners who have lost their lives, this monument in the most public place in the state appears to glorify mountaintop removal. Please come to the Cultural Commissioner’s office on the second floor of the Cultural Center on the State Capitol grounds in Charleston. Apparently, during this meeting we will receive word about the dedication of this monument. (Originally one official said the monument would be dedicated Jan. 3, but another said she wasn’t sure when the dedication would be, another said maybe the second week on January…hmmm, maybe they don’t want us at the ceremony.)
