OVEC Action Alert - Feb. 28, 2002

Urgent:

Action on overweight coal trucks

WV Clean Elections Act

Overweight Coal Trucks: The coalition of diverse groups supporting enforcement of existing coal truck weight limits needs your help in a final ditch effort to move legislation that will protect coalfield residents' lives and all WV taxpayers' wallets.

Please attend a gathering tomorrow, Friday March 1, 2002 at 10 a.m. in the Governor's reception room. Come into the state capitol at the doors nearest the Governor's Mansion (Greenbrier St. and Kanawha Blvd.) We'll be in the first door on your right. We need a crowd, so if you can't get away from work, please ask a retired friend to attend for you! We'll ask the Governor to come out and speak with us. We'll demand that Finance Chairman Harold Michael send this bill to the House floor.

The crowd that came to the House judiciary committee meeting on this bill affected the legislators, so let's keep the heat on!

If you can't come out, please call Delegate Harold Michael at 304-340-3230 and ask him to move Delegate Caputo's overweight coal truck legislation onto the House floor! Please also call the Governor at 1-888-438-2731 and tell him you want him to get that legislation onto the House floor.

Current news on this here.

Clean Elections = Cleaner Water, Cleaner Air:  Clean Elections Act Please Call Delegate Jon Amores at 304-340-3252and ask him to put HB 4532 onto his committee's agenda. Please Call Senator Bill Wooton at 304-357-7880 and ask him to put SB 654 onto his committee's agenda.

These bills are the WV Clean Elections Act, sponsored in the House by Delegate Susan Hubbard and in the Senate by Senator John Mitchell. The bill would create a voluntary system for public financing for the election of legislators and gubernatorial candidates. Clean elections will help take out the pervasive special interest influence out of WV politics. Clean Elections will help clean up our political and physical environment.
