OVERWEIGHT COAL TRUCKS—STOP 'EM!

Help keep up the heat after the great Valentine's Day Rally in support of HB 4014, a bill that would maintain current truck weight laws and improve the enforcement of those laws.

The bill is before the House Judiciary Committee. Kanawha County residents, especially, please call committee chair Jon Amores AT 304-340-3252. Ask him to please reconsider his position on the bill.

Ask him to please support HB 4014 with no weight increase!

Please send that same message to all delegates on the committee.

Feb. 22 10:00-3:00 p.m. 13th Annual WVEC E-Day! at the State Capitol.

Displays from 30 groups, speeches, awards, lobbying. The keynote speaker is columnist Dave Peyton.

E-DAY! 3:30 p.m. "The Last Great Wilderness" – A multimedia presentation on the Artic National Wildlife Refuge at the Asbury United Methodist Church, 501 Elizabeth St., Charleston.

Note: This program also runs Feb. 25, 7:30 p.m. in the Don Morris Room, Marshall University Student Center. "The Last Great Wilderness Project" offers a close-up look at the fragile and beautiful Arctic National Wildlife

Refuge in Alaska. The free, 90-minute program focuses on the controversy over oil development vs. wilderness protection of the Refuge's coastal plain. Filmmaker Jeff Barrie introduces the show. Hosted by MU's Student Activists for the Environment (SAFE) and Marshall Action for Peaceful Solutions (MAPS) in conjunction with OVEC.

E-DAY! 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. Annual WVEC Fun(d)raiser at the Empty Glass (on Elizabeth St., north off Washington St., a block west of the Capitol). Join us for live music, dancing and spirits. Suggested donation $5.00.

Remember Buffalo Creek

Feb. 26, 7 p.m. Two films, "The Buffalo Creek Flood: An Act of Man" and "Buffalo Creek Revisited," are shown in commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the Buffalo Creek Disaster. Presented in the Alumni Lounge in the Student Center at Marshall University by SAFE (Student Activism for the Environment), MAPS (Marshall Action for Peaceful Solutions), the Oral History of Appalachia department and OVEC (Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition).
